Refreshing Gin cocktail made with pineapple juice and empress gin. Resting on a slate coaster, in an etched glass, and garnished with a flower. Empress gin is purple and layered on top of yellow pineapple juice served over ice.

Pretty Purples and Pineapples

Let’s talk about Gin! I have tried it on a few occasions and liked it enough to drink with a slice of lime and some tonic water. Hendricks is cool and all but once I discovered Empress 1908 all bets were off!

It’s purple and pretty and comes in a fancy bottle with a brass/bronze-colored stopper. It layers purple but when you mix it with tonic water or anything acidic it changes to a cool blue color. They include a little booklet with a few recipes to try and if you go to their Facebook page there’s a ton of recipes to try there too! I’ve tried a few of them and so far this one is my favorite.

A few notes on the ingredients in this recipe. I’m a go-to the store and find all the ingredients type of person. While I like to whip things up I am not a fan of “from scratch”. With that being said, there were a few ingredients listed that I wasn’t sure about. One of them being overproof rum, I had no clue what that was. I was in Total Wine and put that in the search bar and this is what came up Largo Bay 151 Gold Rum, so I went with that. It’s 75.5% ALC/VOL! Then I also couldn’t find passion fruit syrup so I went with Finest Call Passion Fruit Puree Mix. I opted for the Trader Vic’s Orgeat Almond syrup for the orgeat syrup. I was able to find these products and everything else I needed at Total Wine.

I chose to garnish with a slice of pineapple and stole an orchid from my husband's precious garage plants. Don't forget to grab some of our coasters to complete your drink decor and save your tables.

Since I am not the original creator of this drink, I am going to link you over to The Hobby Drink Chef on Insta for the recipe.
